‘Vertigine’ is the title of the art project inspired by Michelangelo’s Last Judgement, on show from 1 April to 29 May 2022 at the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence.
The artist proposes a monumental pictorial work whose structure is 7.60 m high and 7 m wide. A single work, whose impact is unique for the contemporary Italian exhibition scene.
‘The artist,’ explains Alessandro Vezzosi, curator of the exhibition and one of the world’s leading Leonardo da Vinci scholars, ’highlights the artist’s desire to experiment with unconscious inventions and fascinations, along the trajectory of perception and through eddies and tangles of colours, in unsettled anatomies and perspectives; she intends to discover the possibilities of ascending and sinking: vertigoes of our fears and exaltations.
The painting was placed with a sophisticated, specially designed system in the exhibition venue of the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence, the oldest in the world, a few steps from Piazza della Signoria, and could be admired through a scenographic immersive experience.
‘For the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno,’ says Cristina Acidini, President of the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno, “hosting this previously unseen work, with the accompanying preparatory sketches, in the exhibition venue in Via Ricasoli is also a precious opportunity to return to the topicality of Michelangelo Buonarroti’s art, which was the trigger for the inspiration of an artist like Marison Ray, an authentic protagonist of contemporary creativity”.
