Marison in Venice
Scuola dei Tiraoro e Battioro | Venezia
2006 | Venezia
The first anthological exhibition of a Valle d’Aosta painter working in Turin, Marison’s showcase at the Schola dell’Arte dei Tiraoro e Battioro, on display until 30 June, features around forty works created between 1993 and 2006. Authoritatively introduced in the accompanying catalogue by Victor De Circasia, the exhibition traces an expressive journey that spans from her early portraits – seemingly realistic yet deeply focused on capturing the soul of her subjects – to her more recent works with an informal essence, where figuration continues to surface in subtle yet compelling ways.
It is no coincidence that De Circasia himself observes that ‘the use of the figurative element becomes part of the process of understanding the constructive elements’ of the final image.
However, it is evident that in her most recent season Marison discovers the autonomous memorative and evocative qualities of colour, occupying the surface of the canvas as a ‘space that counts’ and that she manages to make meaningful with the traces of her passage.
It is important to note in this regard the energy that animates these paintings, and it is no coincidence that ‘Energy’ is the title she assigns to two works executed four-handedly with her master Ezio Gribaudo.
It is the gesture – charged with profound expressive power -that Marison employs as her primary tool to achieve formal results that can be described as “immersive” due to their ability to draw the viewer deeply into the paintings. These gestures ultimately unveil essential emotional references that surface inevitably from the artist’s own history and memory, sometimes bearing deeply personal connotations, other times shaped by environmental influences. In the end, Marison’s work constructs an imaginative world intimately tied to the fundamental aspects of human existence: love, death, and, in essence, the entire spectrum of the existential journey.
